2023-2024 Knapp Forest Elementary School
PTO Committee Descriptions

  1. Hawk Walk: OPEN – Katie Pirog & Donny Nguyen – interim, looking for Hawk Walk Chairs!
The Hawk Walk is the largest annual PTO fundraiser. The PTO budget is set based on the funds raised and supports a majority of all PTO programming. The event takes place on a Friday in late September or early October. The entire school participates (including preschoolers) in the event, and parents/guardians are invited to attend.

The event organized by a group of volunteers, led by Hawk Walk Chair. Event planning begins in the spring of the previous school year and concludes by mid-October.

  2. Room Parents: Chair – Andria Platko
Room Parents support each classroom in grades Kindergarten through 5th. 1-2 parents/guardians volunteer per classroom for the entire school year. The primary role of the Room Parents is to support three classroom parties: Fall/Halloween (October), Holiday (December) and Valentine’s (February). Room Parents work closely with their teacher to develop a plan for each classroom party. Room Parents from each grade level are encouraged to work together to plan a similar party for each classroom in that grade if the teachers are aligned.

The Room Parents Chair communicates to the group of Room Parents volunteers to lead, guide, offer insights and support. This committee runs throughout the entire school year.

  3. Newcomers: Chair – Lisa Hammer
The Newcomers Committee welcomes and offers support to families who are brand new to Knapp Forest. Current Knapp Forest families who volunteer are paired with new families to be a friendly face and help answer any questions a new family may have—or point them in the right direction.

The committee is led by the Newcomers Chair with support from a group of volunteers. This committee runs throughout the entire school year.

  4. Bulletin Board: Chair – Tricia Mesaros
The Bulletin Board Committee designs and sets up the main hallway bulletin board each month. The committee works closely with Mrs. Reynolds and the front office to establish themes for each bulletin board.

The committee is led by the Bulletin Board Committee Chair with support from a group of volunteers. This committee runs throughout the entire school year.

  5. Hospitality: Chair – Carrie Covertson
The Hospitality Committee plans and executes all meals and snacks for staff during Parent Teacher Conferences (2 nights in the Fall & 2 nights in the Spring). A Sign-Up-Genius will be used to collect donated items or gift cards to a specific location for each meal.

The Hospitality Chair will lead a team of volunteers to plan and execute all meals and snacks, setup and cleanup.

  6. Lincoln School: Chair – Jill Hungerford
The Lincoln School is a Knapp Forest Sister School. Lincoln School serves students with special needs from kindergarten age through age 26. The Lincoln School Committee organizes a Food Drive in the Fall and a Towel Drive in the Spring to coordinate the donation of food and much-needed items to the Lincoln School.

The Lincoln School Chair will lead a team of volunteers to executive both the Food Drive and Towel Drive, and work closely with the Lincoln School to collect the items requested.

  7. Book Fair: Chair – Jennifer Webb
The Book Fair Committee plans and executes all details required to host two Knapp Forest Book Fairs (1 week in the Fall & 1 week in the Spring). Volunteers will support the librarian, Mrs. Doctor, by setting up and tearing down each Book Fairs, cashing students out at the register and providing help as-needed during open Book Fair hours.

The Book Fair Chair will lead a team of volunteers to ensure each Book Fair runs smoothly and has the adequate amount of support during each event.

  8. Family Engagement: Chair – Rachel Denhoff
The Family Engagement committee supports opportunities to bring Knapp Forest families together. This new committee is tasked with coming up with 1-2 opportunities for the entire family to enjoy and/or adults-only.

The Family Engagement Chair will work closely with the Executive Board to finalize ideas and lead a team of volunteers to bring each event to life.

  9. Staff Appreciation: OPEN – 1-2 Chairs Needed
The Staff Appreciation Committee spoils the incredible Knapp Forest staff. The majority of planned activities take place during Staff Appreciation Week (first week of May), but the committee can choose to spread activities out as they see fit throughout the year.

The Staff Appreciation Chair will lead a team of volunteers to plan and execute all events planned for staff.
